How-To Make A Ribbon Rainbow. I HEART Rainbows!

July 29, 2017

How-to mama here with a simple but adorable how-to craft!

“Be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud” ~Maya Angelou

Do you love rainbows just as much as I do? If so, you’ll love this cute but simple craft project that can be made for any occasion.

I made it for Mila’s 1st birthday as well as for end of the year teacher gifts. Check out all about Mila’s unicorn birthday HERE.

For any of the kids birthday parties that I threw, I wanted to give guests favors that could be used. The pastel magnet rainbow was the perfect thing.

Each family received one along with a little note with the Maya Angelou quote “Be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud”.

If we can all be a rainbow in another persons life, we can create a better world. I honestly do believe in this!

Nothing could be any more perfect than to send home a rainbow with each family.

Here are the supplies you need (all can be found on Amazon.com or your local craft supply store):

Now that you have all your supplies let’s get started!

  1. Start by cutting the plastic canvas in half to create that rainbow shape.
  2. Cut one piece of ribbon for each color. The length will depend on how long you want it to hang. I cut each piece at 10 inches.
  3. Next, thread each color one by one. Weave it in and out. Do not pull it all the way through. Leave a tail however long you want it to hang. (hint: start threading each one the same way) (hint: if the ribbon is difficult to thread, use the lei needle)
  4. After threading each color, trim the ends of the ribbon so that it’s the same length.
  5. Thread one bead onto each end and secure it by tying a knot.
  6. Last, glue the magnetic button to the back. Some magnets come with a sticky backing but I have yet to find one that sticks really well.

Now you have a beautiful pastel ribbon rainbow!

If you’d like, you could glue the rainbow onto other things such as a barrette, clothes pin, frame, etc. It’ll look cute on anything!

You could even make a rainbow using primary colors or custom colors of your choice. The ideas are endless!
